SPRUCE was founded in 2002 by Christian Schnall in Regensburg, Germany as a one-man-project. Changing between electronic beats, clicks and cuts and pop songwriting he released various CD-Rs before his debut album Once Upon A Time on Schinderwies.

Since 2005 Christian Schnall´s longtime friend and musical advisor Christian "Pacult" Winklhofer joined the lineup. SPRUCE´s music is often referred to as Dreampop or Shoegaze and Bands like Slowdive or My Bloody Valentine. This might serve as vague orientation but does not sufficiently describe what SPRUCE is really about. In fact the sound can be called dreamlike for its spheric, slow and almost hypnotizing character. You might notice a good amount of reverb and delay and other electronic effects, but without clustering the sound. These effects are well-crafted and subtly interwoven, so the general mood is rather calm and intimate. At the same time SPRUCE has a good nose for catchy popsongs which can range from soft and sparse to bombastic wall-of-sound outbursts. The themes that run through the songs are different forms of desolation, the unability to communicate with the outside world and the strong wish to wake up and change one´s own situation. There is no fear of pathos or big emotions in word and performance, which always swings between shyness and big emotional and sensual orgies.

At live shows special videoclips immerse the stage in a cloud of sound and vision. SPRUCE´s songs float like emotions electronically transformed into acoustic life, placing themselves in a room without shame or irony and remain there full of longing.
